Summary

Absolutely wonderful。 It was such a fun read。 I loved finding what all of the hidden cyphers meant and the ending was a perfect end to the overall story。 It made me laugh with all the sarcasm included in the descriptions。 Unfortunately, the only disappointment was that the version I read was the standard version so I couldn't read the blank pages that required a black light, but that was instantly fixed with the help of the internet。 I'm so glad I bought this book Absolutely wonderful。 It was such a fun read。 I loved finding what all of the hidden cyphers meant and the ending was a perfect end to the overall story。 It made me laugh with all the sarcasm included in the descriptions。 Unfortunately, the only disappointment was that the version I read was the standard version so I couldn't read the blank pages that required a black light, but that was instantly fixed with the help of the internet。 I'm so glad I bought this book 。。。more

I got suckers to skim from and merch to pawn off! What’s that? You’re sayin’ women like men that write lengthy detailed reviews? Hey, don’t pull my leg! I know no one has an attention span anymore!。。。Check the other reviews if I don’t believe you? Fine。 (Sees other reviews) Someone’s indulging in her Inner Mabel。 So are hundreds of others。 Okay, point taken!(ahem)Yes, you read that right。 Gravity Falls is, in my opinion, the best family-friendly tv show ever。 I only even found it due to getting bored one night and scouring Disney Plus in search of something new to indulge in。 I saw a bunch of animated shows I had heard of, but never watched: Phineas and Ferb, Amphibia, Star Versus the Forces of Evil, and this。 I did a quick look on IMDB and thought that I would like Gravity Falls the most。 Decision made, I loaded up the first episode。Within ten seconds, I was on the floor laughing my nosehairs off。I watched a lot of cartoons as a kid。 Some I liked more than others。 Barring theatrical shorts like the Looney Tunes, if you asked me what my favorite family-friendly cartoons from America were, I would’ve said the first three seasons of Spongebob, Freakazoid, and Avatar if you’re looking for something more dramatic。 I still have a lot of love for those shows, and I still recommend all of them, but Gravity Falls…Gravity Falls, yo。It’s like when people gush about Dexter’s Lab, I say, “Dexter’s Lab? What’s that?!” I still remember when My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic first came out, and I’m like, “Who cares?!” I look at my own reviews of the comic versions of The Powerpuff Girls and Adventure Time and I think, “Power Who? Adventure Huh?” Gravity Falls is such artistry that even other works of artistry are rendered moot in its presence。 And come to think of it, I prefer Gravity Falls over Spongebob and Freakazoid too。 It is everything。So it’s no surprise then that the adventure did not end after forty episodes。 There was a one-off graphic novel, Lost Legends, which I read and loved (and now holds the distinction of being the funniest graphic novel I’ve ever read), and there was also this, a reprint of Journal #3。 For those who haven’t watched the show, the two main kids, Dipper and Mabel, rely on a journal written by a mysterious author to learn about the many mysteries of Gravity Falls, that journal being Journal #3。If you’re thinking of reading this, or Lost Legends for that matter too, you should definitely watch the tv show first。 It’s only forty episodes, shorter than Dragon Ball Z。 If you can’t get Disney Plus, you can always buy/rent it on Amazon。 I swear to you, it’s not a dumb kids’ show。 It’s really really not a dumb kids’ show。 It’s basically a kid-friendly version of The X-Files。Okay, so Journal #3, how can I best describe it without getting into spoilers? Much of it is a recap of events of the show, as well as a filling in of the gaps of things not explicitly shown, often shedding light on things that happened off screen。 There’s new information on things the author did, things that could’ve been more episodes of the show, maybe even another season’s worth。 (Don’t get too excited; the show doesn’t need more episodes。 It’s fine as is。) Journal #3 also provides a more detailed explanation of the ending of the series, making what was an already excellent conclusion even more excellent。The book is more than just words; every page has illustrations。 These illustrations can’t move, and you have to fill in the characters’ voices with your head, but the artwork is a perfect fit for Gravity Falls。 Not just that, the font is perfect。 You see, it’s not just the mysterious author who’s written in Journal #3; there are pages by Dipper and Mabel too。 Their fonts and art styles are a perfect reflection of their characters, as is the style for the original author。The book--beyond cataloguing weird phenomena and telling a few wry jokes--tells a story all its own。 It does have a beginning, a middle, and an end, with an important life lesson not seen in the show or Lost Legends。 It is, for all intents and purposes, a complete story arc all on its own。 It’s more than just a rehash of the show; there’s new content for long-time fans too。Man, I really wanna go into more detail, but I can’t。 I don’t want to spoil anything about Gravity Falls。 Go watch it if you haven’t, then read this and Lost Legends。 Your soul will thank you。P。S。 My favorite Gravity Falls character is Grunkle Stan。 When I finished the show, I wanted to make one of those, “[Name] being iconic for [X] minutes” videos on YouTube。 The only problem is if I really made a video of Grunkle Stan being iconic, it would pretty much be the entire show。 How often can you say that about someone, real or fictional? 。。。more

If you haven't watched Gravity Falls, you need to。 This book ties amazingly into the TV show's story and lore。 This "Journal" is based on the journal the main character, Dipper, discovers in the woods。 It contains facts on all the weird creatures, items, and locations of the small town of Gravity Falls。 This book follows the mysterious author's adventure cataloging and drawing all the things he encounters up until he mysteriously disappears。 The text and the artwork look as if they were actually If you haven't watched Gravity Falls, you need to。 This book ties amazingly into the TV show's story and lore。 This "Journal" is based on the journal the main character, Dipper, discovers in the woods。 It contains facts on all the weird creatures, items, and locations of the small town of Gravity Falls。 This book follows the mysterious author's adventure cataloging and drawing all the things he encounters up until he mysteriously disappears。 The text and the artwork look as if they were actually drawn out by a researcher in the field which definitely adds to the immersion。 It is also easy to get attached to the characters introduced as they are each unique and funny。 Much of the show's humor is conveyed well on the pages。 While I think someone who hasn't seen the show could definitely enjoy this book, there are so many references to the show that it may go over their head and spoil the TV show。 They also won't be able to fully appreciate how much thought and effort went into the writing to keep it in line with the series。 。。。more

6/5 starsGravity Falls is a special show。 It’s humor (so, SO funny), endless well of mysteries, clever world-building and gobs of heart has solidified it as one of my all-time favorite ‘go-to’ shows that consistently brings me joy。 Show creator Alex Hirsch turned down a truckload of money to extend the series beyond two seasons, but felt that the story was finished, and ended things on his own terms。 A rare example of integrity in a business where more, more, more is ever sacrificed to keep the 6/5 starsGravity Falls is a special show。 It’s humor (so, SO funny), endless well of mysteries, clever world-building and gobs of heart has solidified it as one of my all-time favorite ‘go-to’ shows that consistently brings me joy。 Show creator Alex Hirsch turned down a truckload of money to extend the series beyond two seasons, but felt that the story was finished, and ended things on his own terms。 A rare example of integrity in a business where more, more, more is ever sacrificed to keep the original vision as intended。 That alone speaks volumes about how carefully curated these episodes are built。 Every credit sequence has brief flashes of cryptograms that add to the lore of the show。 Pause your DVR, copy down each puzzle, figure out the cipher, and interactively immerse yourself into this show like none before it。 The more run-through of the series I watch, the more hidden mysteries, humorous explanations, and wild theories I find, just itching to be discovered。 And now that I have children that are old enough to appreciate this show, I get to experience it all through their eyes, and it’s like watching it for the first time all over again。So, this book。 Journal #3。 It plays a major role in the overarching story, linking many of its series-long mysteries together before dropping some huge revelations toward the grand finale。 So Alex Hirsch brought this book to life, creating a 288-page hardcover tome of journal entries, illustrations, ciphers, hidden messages in the bindings, references to every episode, a massive expansion of its world-building, and so, so much more。 You can, and I have, spent dozens of hours unlocking its mysteries while continuously laughing and being amazed。 Finding a book that keeps my daughter’s attention rapt as we spend time jumping back and forth between the show and this journal is a huge win for both our lives。 Anyone with a passing interest in Gravity Falls, of which Guillermo del Toro called “one of the greatest shows ever,” should pick this up without thinking twice。 。。。more

Gravity Falls is the best show。 Got this for Christmas and I'm in LOVE! The drawings are incredible, and the writing is just as good as the show。 Though kinda sad they're still not doing the special edition with black light。 But I do like cracking the codes with my sister and friend。 Gravity Falls is the best show。 Got this for Christmas and I'm in LOVE! This book is absolutely terrific for anyone who liked the show。 I was embarrassingly excited when I first laid my hands on the journal, and it did not disappoint in any way at all。 It's not only completely accurate to the journal we see in the episodes, but it also follows a cohesive narrative, that which we see and follow in the show itself。 What an added bonus! I expected that it would just be the facts about all the strange creatures, but to see Ford's entries and follow his entire journey, then Dipper as he uncovers the mysteries of the journal, it basically serves as a novel version of the show。 It's funny, creepy, dark and entertaining。 The added bonus of secret codes and message will keep you entertained for ages。 I absolutely adore this book, it brought out the geek in me and I have absolutely no regrets! Although, people who somehow landed here without having watched the show, I wouldn't recommend it。 It's far more enjoyable when you know the show and the characters and are familiar with the journal already。 。。。more
